Sir George Martin Passes Away
We were devastated to hear the sad news that Sir George Martin passed away yesterday at the age of 90 years. Sir George Martin produced and arranged the music for so many wonderful bands and artists over the years. These included Brian Epstein’s stable of Liverpool bands: The Beatles (of course), Gerry and the Pacemakers and Cilla Black etc.. His tally of famous artists also includes famous names such as: Humphrey Littleton, Jeff Beck, The Goons, Shirley Bassey, The Police and Duran Duran. The list is endless. Not only that, he was also an amazing musician and songwriter/arranger. His own musical portfolio is extensive and includes some wonderful tracks such as: Pepperland and Theme 1. In an industry crowded with prima donnas and large egos, Sir George was a wonderful person, liked and admired by everyone he met.
Sir George will be remembered for the wonderful musical legacy to which he made such an amazing creative contribution. He started his career at EMI’s Parlophone label in 1950. He worked there until 1965 when he sat up his own AIR studios. He spent most of his life working in the music industry and his legacy dates back to his classical music and comedy records in the fifties. He will also be remembered for the way he transformed the style and techniques of musical arranging and recording. Albums such as Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band totally revolutionised the feel, musical arrangements and techniques used in the industry. His arranging style and recording techniques are still being used today and have had a lasting and positive influence on popular music for over sixty years.
We thank Sir George for the wonderful music he produced and for his huge inspiration to popular music since the fifties.
